Who Manufactures Asbestos Products?

By | Aug 3, 2015 | Asbestos Products

During the industrial revolution, asbestos use skyrocketed. Due to its resistance to heat and fire, durability, and affordability, asbestos was used in maritime, automotive, construction, and many other products. There are many companies who have manufactured and sold these asbestos-containing products in the long history of asbestos use, but here are just a few:

Amcord, Inc.

Amcord, Inc. was formerly known as the Riverside Cement Company and was a manufacturer of asbestos-containing asbestos products. One of these products was “gun-applied plastic cements,” which was used to form supportive layers underneath stucco-finished construction in buildings of all kinds. In some cases, individuals have fallen ill due to the use of these products, and Amcord, Inc. has been found guilty of negligently manufacturing and selling a defective product.

John Crane Inc.

John Crane Inc. produced asbestos-containing gaskets and packing for the oil and gas, chemical, pharmaceutical industries, and more. Those that worked in John Crane Inc. factories or handled their products are at risk for developing an asbestos-related disease due to exposure on the job. In many cases, John Crane Inc. has been held responsible for the illnesses and deaths of workers in court. In 2014, Robert Whalen, a U.S. Navy machinist mate and nuclear inspector, and his wife were awarded over $70 million following his mesothelioma diagnosis. It was ruled that John Crane Inc. was negligent, that its asbestos-containing products were defective in design, and that it failed to warn.

Kaiser Gypsum Company, Inc.

Kaiser Gypsum Company, Inc. is known for the manufacturing of asbestos-containing joint compounds used in construction. Different individuals within many trades came into contact with Kaiser Gypsum’s joint compounds – not only construction workers. In one case, an electrician was awarded $13,227,939 after a jury found Kaiser Gypsum Company, Inc. was negligent. In addition, the jury determined that Kaiser Gypsum Company, Inc.’s asbestos-containing joint compounds were defectively designed and contained a failure to warn product defects.
